About Me
Building Confident Learners, Capable Humans
Hi, I'm Grace Goosen, known as Mrs G to the kids, and I'm passionate about helping students thrive academically—whether they're in traditional school or learning from home. For the past seven years, I've had the privilege of teaching students from Grade R through Grade 12, and I've seen firsthand how the right support can transform a struggling student into a confident learner. Every child learns differently, and I believe that personalised attention makes all the difference. MY JOURNEY: I started my teaching career working at a conventional public school, and later a private school, where I developed a deep understanding of South African curriculum requirements and what students truly need to succeed. Over the years, I've worked with students following CAPS, Cambridge, IEB, and GED curricula, giving me insight into different educational approaches and the flexibility to support students across various learning pathways. Over time, I realized that many students—and parents—needed more flexible, individualised support than traditional classrooms could offer. That's why I created this space: a welcoming environment where students can get the help they need, when they need it, in a way that works for them. WHAT I OFFER: Whether your child needs one-on-one tutoring to catch up in a challenging subject, a focused study group for exam preparation, or a supportive space to complete their daily schoolwork, I'm here to help. I also work closely with homeschooling families, offering subject-specific teaching for those tricky topics (yes, I'm looking at you, maths and science!), guidance for parents just starting their homeschooling journey, and a supervised study environment where homeschoolers can work alongside peers. MY APPROACH: While academic success is important, I believe education is about so much more than grades. My focus is on the holistic development of each child—helping them grow not just as students, but as confident, capable individuals ready to navigate the world. I believe learning should be: PERSONALISED – tailored to each student's learning style and pace ENCOURAGING – building confidence alongside competence PRACTICAL – focused on real understanding, not just memorization SUPPORTIVE – creating a safe space where questions are always welcome LIFE-FOCUSED – equipping students with skills, resilience, and critical thinking that serve them far beyond the classroom Much of my teaching centers on life lessons—helping students develop problem-solving skills, emotional intelligence, perseverance, and the ability to learn from mistakes. These are the qualities that truly prepare young people to do well in the world outside of academics. Yes, we work on maths, reading, spelling and everything the subjects contain but we also work on becoming thoughtful, capable human beings. MY PHILOSOPHY: I see every student as a whole person, not just a grade on a report card. Academic achievement matters, but so does self-esteem, curiosity, kindness, and the ability to face challenges with courage. When a child feels seen, valued, and supported, academic success often follows naturally—but more importantly, they develop the inner strength to thrive in whatever path they choose. CURRICULUM EXPERIENCE: I have extensive experience with: CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) – South African national curriculum CAMBRIDGE – International British curriculum IEB (Independent Examinations Board) – Independent schools GED (General Educational Development) – Alternative American qualification pathway This breadth of experience allows me to support students across different educational systems and adapt my teaching to meet diverse learning needs. LET'S WORK TOGETHER: If you're looking for patient, experienced support to help your child succeed—not just academically, but as a whole person—I'd love to hear from you. Whether you're a homeschooling parent who could use an extra hand or a family seeking someone who truly cares about your child's overall development, I'm here to help. Every student deserves the chance to excel, and I'm here to make that happen—in the classroom, in life, and in everything in between.
